Ocean Village Fort Pierce Restaurant

If you live at Ocean Village in Fort Pierce, then you know The Inn Restaurant in your community is one of the best kept secrets. It has a large bar area with sparkling lights on the ceiling. The dining area has tall, wall-to-wall windows overlooking a breathtaking, panoramic view of sea oats, white sandy beaches and crystal blue waters.

One long ivory leather banquette separates the bar from the dining room and wooden chairs provide seating at tables on the window side of the space. Modern uplights define the sea-blue columns and colorful modern art adorns the few walls that are not windows.

Our drink orders were taken, and we sat back with our menus. The starters include stuffed mushrooms, crab queso, ahi tuna eggrolls, and lobster mac and cheese. Sandwich choices feature tacos, fried fish, or burgers. The entrée menu is enormous with lobster, shrimp, seafood ravioli, chicken breast, grilled fish, or beef.

Our server brought soft warm rolls with our drinks and recited the night’s specials. One of the featured appetizers that evening was Key West prawns with a black bean puree dip ($16). The prawns (like large shrimp) were sweet and delicious but in my opinion, a little dry, and the black bean pureé did not add much to the dish. We also tried the fried lobster skewers ($15). Chunks of Florida lobster were perfectly lightly battered, fried and served on skewers which were stuck in a thick slice of grilled pineapple with a ramekin of melted clarified butter. The lobster was tender and very flavorful, and the fragrant pineapple was a very nice addition.

One of my dining companions ordered the shrimp Fra Diavolo ($21) which is typically a spicy, tomato-based sauce. The Inn Restaurant describes theirs as “explosive.” My companion requested the sauce be a little less spicy and the restaurant happily complied. The shrimp was tender, full of great flavor and served on a bed of al dente linguine with a less fiery robust Fra Diavolo sauce.

Her husband ordered the sea scallops ($24). The large scallops were beautifully presented and lightly sautéed with a golden crust. Alongside, he had a tasty rice pilaf and thinly sliced, sautéed, buttery zucchini and yellow squash. The meal was a visual and taste winner.

The hubby went with beef - NY Strip ($23) medium rare. The hand-cut, 12-ounce strip was grilled to absolute perfection and was tender and full-flavored. He opted to skip the starch and ordered a double side of the herbaceous squash medley.

My dinner choice was mussels in red sauce with pasta ($18). The presentation was an astonishing number of tantalizing, fragrant mussels in their open shells with a spicy hearty tomato sauce on a mass of al dente linguine. The dish was excellent.

Dessert was a house-made key lime pie ($7.00) cradled in a thin graham cracker crust. The texture was flawless, and the taste was sweeter than it was tart. We also enjoyed chocolate torte cake ($8.00). Rich chocolate cake was layered with light, fluffy mousse and topped with chocolate shavings. It was heavenly.

Some of the guests at my table thought the music was a bit loud for conversation. Our dinner, however, was first rate - fresh local seafood, hand cut beef and other wonderful choices. Thankfully, the restaurant is open to the public for all to enjoy.
