The most important part of getting pierced is finding a reputable piercer. When you arrive at the shop, your piercer will go over the procedure with you and you’ll fill out some paperwork. Once your piercer is ready, they will inspect your frenulum to ensure it’s ideal for piercing and holding the jewelry. If this is the case, you’ll rinse your mouth with non-alcoholic mouthwash to ensure a clean area. Your piercer will then secure your frenulum with a clamp before puncturing it with a hollow needle.

The jewelry will be inserted through the needle afterwards to complete the procedure. Before leaving, your piercer will go over proper aftercare with you. Make sure to ask any lingering questions you may have before leaving the shop.

Tongue web piercings rank at a 3/10 on the pain scale. Since this is considered the least painful tongue piercing, the damage is minimal.

However, you may experience swelling and irritation for a few days after being pierced. You can take anti-inflammatory medication like ibuprofen, or put an ice cube under your tongue to make this process more pleasant.

Always be sure to swish with non-alcoholic mouthwash after eating or drinking. Twice per day, rinse with saline solution in the same fashion. Make your own saline solution at home by dissolving 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt in 8 oz of warm water. Pour some solution into your mouth and swish around to eliminate bacteria. Repeat once in the morning and once at night to ensure a regularly clean piercing.

Why

The most common tongue web jewelry is a curved barbell or ring. You will most likely be pierced with a longer curved barbell to account for the swelling that occurs post piercing. You are welcome to explore jewelry options once your piercing is fully healed after 8 to 10 weeks. Make sure to insist on high quality jewelry like titanium or stainless steel to lessen the likelihood of allergic reaction.
