316L STAINLESS STEEL is commonly called Surgical Steel by the public. 316L is a specific grade of surgical steel that is safe for healed body piercings. 316LVM is implant grade used for new piercings. It is important to purchase hand made surgical steel jewelry that uses the professional and correct description of 316L stainless steel and correct finishing. I use a mirror finishing, which is ASTM compliant. There are many grades of stainless steel from other sources with a wide variety of uses and not all of them are compatible for body piercings. I only use what is safe for piercings.
